Mercer Island Girls Lacrosse Club

Mission Statement

To provide a welcoming environment for girls grades in 1-12 to learn and play lacrosse. To develop players of all skill levels through directed practice and competition. To promote sportsmanship, camaraderie, and respect for self and others; skills expect to serve players on and off the field for a lifetime.

About Our Club

We offer a 1st/2nd grade (U9) "Intro to Lacrosse" clinic-style program, two 3rd/4th grade (U11) teams, two 5th/6th grade (U13) teams, two 7th/8th grade (U15) teams (one more developmental and one more competitive), a Junior Varsity team and a Varsity team. While we have the support of the Mercer Island High School Athletic Director and follow Mercer Island School District policies, we are not a Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) high school sanctioned sport but rather a “club” sport. This means a parent led Board and coaches are responsible for the program at all levels, including high school.

The official season for both youth and high school starts in late February and ends in mid-May for high school and late May for youth. No activities are scheduled during Mercer Island School District's Spring Break.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I register?

On the Home page, click on the "Register Now" button on the top right. Before registering, please make sure to join US Lacrosse, as US Lacrosse provides the club's liability insurance and it's mandatory that all players be current members. To join, go to and chick on the red "Join US Lacrosse" button. If your player is a member already, there is a lookup button that allows you to find her current number and expiration date. Her membership must be current through the end of the season.

2. When should I register?

Youth (Grades 1-8) registration for Spring Season typically opens in December. We encourage you to register early, as it helps us identify to the league how many teams we'll field at each level. Spots are available on a first come, first serve basis, and there may be a need to cap players in certain programs.

3. What will my fees be used for?

Registration fees are used to cover the club's operational expenses, which include field rentals, coaching costs, league fees, referee fees, uniforms, jamborees, equipment, and transportation (high school).

4. Does the Club make a profit?

No. The Mercer Island Women's Lacrosse Club (MIWLC) is proud to be a not-for-profit organization and offers fees that are consistent with other not-for-profit clubs in the State.

6. What is the Club's refund policy?

Full refund less $15 admin fee prior to first practice.
50% refund after practices have begun but before the first game.
No refund after first game.

7. What equipment will my daughter need?

A girls lacrosse stick, lacrosse goggles, cleats (not required for 1st-4th) and a colored mouth guard. Please be sure to purchase a GIRLS stick, as the league will not allow players to use boys' sticks in games. Note: We do find to a certain extent that you get what you pay for where sticks are concerned. The more expensive sticks are made with materials that enable easier catching and throwing, which in turn provide a better first experience for the player. Check out our Equipment page for more information.

8. When is the official lacrosse season?

The spring season starts in late February and continues through mid May for high school and late May for youth. Players will NOT have games during Spring Break. Note: The 1st/2nd grade program is a shorter program, and typically starts in mid-April.
